Digital Picture Framing | Memory Card Picture

I have just heard of a new service called digital picture framing that allows you to send a digital picture to be printed and framed in a traditional non digital picture frame. This is aimed at those who miss the old standard frames but still take their pictures via a digital camera. This would also mean that people no longer have to worry about their memory card picture limit on their frames.

My Shiny New Electronic Picture Frame

Electronic Picture Frame

Like most people nowadays I have amassed a huge quantity of digital pictures over the years and the digital pile keeps on growing. Aside from the space they take up on my hard drive, which is second only to my music collection, the way in which I can view these photos is becoming a concern. Sure I can share them on Facebook, but then everyone will know about the dinner you had on your holiday in Hawaii last year, and for sure they will comment on it. I could use any number of image sites, such as Flickr, to make online albums and share with whoever I want. But what I really want to do is have these in a frame in my living room so that I can enjoy them myself and show them off to visitors, just like the old days.

That’s where an electronic picture frame comes in. These frames have the amazing ability to take your pictures and display them in slideshow format within the frame. To the casual observer they look like a normal picture frame (apart from the outlandish ones), however the pictures can change as often as you like, and often through some nice look transitions. Obviously the more expensive frames will have better resolutions meaning a crisper and cleaner image, but the cheaper ones don’t do a bad job. The way in which they source the images is also quite flexible and versatile, depending on what frame you go for. The standard way is through a memory card, like the ones you use in your digital camera. These can be inserted into slots provided on the frame and hey presto, your pictures are showing up. Other options include Wi-Fi links to your computer or even linking straight to your social networking sites such as Facebook or Myspace.

Besides showing photos, these frames also provide other functionality, although usually you have to buy the more expensive frames for the features. One great feature becoming more common on frames is the ability to play video, enabling you to show off your kids first bike ride right in the frame. The ability to play sound is also becoming more common, with most offering background music options, again sourced from your own collection. Unfortunately in my experience the sound produced is quite tinny as one would expect with such small speakers.

All in all, these frames are an amazing addition to any house and should be checked out immediately. Dont let you digital image archive grow without being able to share the truly special images.
